Dried Flowers from Dutch Soil
For fifty years, Lamboo Dried & Deco B.V. has been known as a specialist in dried flowers. The company manages almost the entire production chain: from seed selection and field cultivation to drying, breeding, and assembling commercial bouquets. The company is owned by Anders Invest from Maarsbergen and led by CEO Wouter de Keizer, who has been at the helm for a year. According to De Keizer, this full control of the chain ensures consistent quality, flexibility, and a low ecological footprint.
“Most of our flowers are simply sown outdoors in the Netherlands around March. By July the harvest is brought in, after which we dry the flowers using a special process and keep them in stock,” explains De Keizer. “Our products are shipped all over the world and are known for their unmatched quality.”
Lamboo supplies both bulk products and ready-made bouquets directly to retailers, wholesalers, and through auctions.
A Sustainable Alternative to Plastic Flowers
Dried flowers have gained popularity in recent years. According to De Keizer, sustainability plays an important role: “European buyers are looking for alternatives to plastic flowers, also known as silk flowers. This is driven by a new generation of consumers who are more conscious about the environmental footprint of their purchases.”
Lamboo’s flowers remain beautiful for at least six months and can then be fully processed biologically—either on the compost heap or in the organic waste bin. “Extremely sustainable,” says De Keizer.
Trend-Driven Bouquets
Lamboo’s assortment is developed by an experienced team that monitors global trends. “Our motto is simple: we create something beautiful with Dutch dried flowers. We combine them into commercial bouquets for different markets,” says De Keizer.
He notes that the market is currently flooded with plastic flowers, which actually creates opportunities for Lamboo: a natural and sustainable alternative for the conscious consumer.
From Fashion to Flowers
De Keizer has a background in the fashion industry, where he gained extensive experience in brand building, positioning, and translating trends into commercial products.
“Running a company is ultimately about people. Those patterns are fairly universal. I also see Lamboo as a fashion company: our product eventually ends up on someone’s kitchen table. For me, B2B doesn’t really exist.”
According to him, the biggest challenge at Lamboo was implementing new ideas and strategies within the organization. The corporate identity has since been renewed and the new strategy is now widely supported throughout the company.
Market, Opportunities, and Future Plans
De Keizer sees both challenges and opportunities in the market. “The biggest challenge is whether the harvest comes off the field successfully. The opportunities lie mainly in the fact that relatively few consumers are familiar with dried flowers.”
He points to the growing demand for sustainable, traceable products that are naturally biodegradable.
In the coming years, Lamboo aims to increase awareness of dried flowers and introduce new product varieties. “What was a hype in the 1970s is now experiencing a rapid revival. Our starting point will always remain the same: sustainable and natural.”
Trade Fairs as Inspiration and Opportunity
Lamboo recently presented its new brand identity, Sustainable Dutch Dried Flowers, at trade fairs such as Ambiente, Christmasworld, and Milano Home. The reactions were positive, both from existing and new buyers.
According to De Keizer, the overwhelming presence of plastic flowers at these fairs actually highlights Lamboo’s unique position even more. “We are the only player that controls almost the entire chain in-house. That supports our strategy and strengthens our position as a natural alternative.”
Trade fairs remain an important channel for attracting new customers and gaining inspiration. Following the success in Frankfurt and Milan, Lamboo is now exploring other international trade fairs that could help further grow the brand.
